Job Description

Technical Program Manager, Internal Systems at Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses, enabling millions of companies globally to accept payments, grow revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, offering an unprecedented opportunity to contribute to the global economy.

The Internal Systems team owns a diverse mix of platform and product solutions primarily for internal users. Our goals focus on building frictionless experiences for Sellers and Finance Engineering to ensure efficient and accurate execution. We seek individuals with a strong background or interest in GTM and Finance domains, comfortable managing complex, cross-functional initiatives.

What you'll do

As a Technical Program Manager, Internal Systems, you will be instrumental in driving programs across the entire Stripe ecosystem. You will be responsible for the successful definition, cross-functional strategy, planning, and execution of large-scale, scalable technical programs. The ideal candidate will deliver exceptional results by building and implementing solutions that significantly benefit our users.

Responsibilities

  • Work with teams across the organization to understand pain points and develop multi-domain solutions.
  • Define and produce high-quality written proposals, communications, and documentation.
  • Execute technical programs requiring deep systems and engineering-level knowledge.
  • Partner with Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, Engineers, business partners, Product Managers, and other Technical Program Managers to define, scope, and drive large programs.
  • Play a key part in shaping technical design, predicting roadblocks, and identifying trade-offs in partnership with engineering.
  • Develop, implement, and iterate on program management techniques, frameworks, and KPIs to achieve well-defined success criteria.
  • Elevate the execution capabilities of engineering teams, providing guidance where needed.
  • Influence peers and stakeholders, building consensus while navigating ambiguity.
  • Leverage data and acquired knowledge to drive strategic decisions at an engineering leadership level.
  • Create widely circulated plans, ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment across teams.
  • Operationalize and execute critical cross-functional programs spanning multiple engineering organizations.

Who you are

We are seeking candidates who meet the minimum requirements. Preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a strict requirement.

Minimum Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering, systems engineering, and/or technical program management experience.
  • Understanding of distributed systems.
  • Understanding of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to digest complex information, distill it, and make recommendations.
  • Proven track record of program management across all phases of software development, demonstrating critical thinking and thought leadership.
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to build relationships with stakeholders and senior leaders.
  • Experience driving internal and external process improvements across multiple teams and functions, bringing best practices.
  • Ability to operate autonomously and rapidly, leading large-scale efforts across diverse teams and time zones.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in technical program management within GTM and Financial systems.
  • Experience managing technical software products from infancy to scale.
  • Ability to internalize an entire cross-functional business and lead cohesive programs.
  • Experience designing and building a multi-product platform.
  • Creative thinker who thrives on cross-company collaboration (engineering, analytics, marketing, design, sales) to build superior products.
  • Resourceful and driven to achieve results.
  • SQL scripting proficiency.

Hybrid work at Stripe

This role supports either in-office work or a remote arrangement (35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).

  • Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time monthly in their local office or with users, balancing in-person collaboration with flexibility.
  • Remote work defines as 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from an office. Regular work from home is expected, though office visits for meetings are welcome. Relocation costs to a remote location are not covered.
