About The Team

The Product Design team at Stripe defines, creates, and delivers all user-facing aspects of the Stripe brand and product. The Developer AI team is an ambitious, boundary-pushing group focused on reimagining Stripe’s developer experience for the AI era. We leverage the latest LLMs and AI engineering techniques to streamline and automate the building and maintaining of Stripe integrations, while exploring entirely new collaborative development methods.

Some Areas We’re Currently Working On

• Re-imagining the zero-to-one integration experience for developers using Stripe’s APIs.
• Bringing Stripe knowledge (docs, reference, support) directly to developers wherever they work, including via our powerful MCP server.
• Collaborating with partners like v0 to build novel ways for users to get set up and take payments in minutes, not weeks.
• Reducing the pain of API migrations and upgrades with AI tools for a more magical experience.
• Exploring new, boundary-pushing AI applications to improve the overall Developer Experience.

What you’ll do

We are seeking an experienced Staff Product Designer Developer AI to help design the future of AI for developers and set new industry standards in AI tooling. In this role, you will shape Stripe's developer experience through the lens of AI and our company-wide AI strategy. You will impact how AI tools interact with payments at scale and push the boundaries of every part of the developer journey.

We need a designer who is relentlessly curious, technically adept yet creative, deeply familiar with the AI landscape, and obsessed with the intersection of code, design, and systems thinking. If you'd vibe-code your design presentation for an interview, we want to talk to you.

Responsibilities

• Design and prototype innovative, AI-powered developer tools and experiences from scratch.
• Understand the evolving AI industry and apply insights to craft groundbreaking AI experiences for developers.
• Create boundary-pushing AI experiences, envisioning the future beyond current patterns.
• Experiment with new interaction models for AI tools to set industry standards.
• Transform ambiguous developer problems into concrete products, from proposal to launch.
• Comfortably build with AI yourself and prototype ideas using these tools as part of your design process, leading a cultural shift in design work through AI prototyping.
• Directly shape the developer experience roadmap alongside engineers by pitching novel ideas.
• Collaborate closely with partner teams like Developer Products, Connect, and Merchant Experience across the organization to elevate developer experiences.
• Advocate for how AI can assist users across internal teams, ensuring understanding of its impact on product delivery.
• Participate in design reviews and regularly share work with design and company leadership.

Who you are

We encourage applications from candidates who meet the minimum requirements. Preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a strict requirement. We are highly interested in designers with a coding background or strong prototyping practice.

Minimum Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant design experience at a tech, product-driven company.
• Experience working on developer tools, with developers, or writing code.
• Experience using, building, or designing for AI tools, with strong opinions on great AI experiences (strong side-projects count!).
• Understanding of developers, their needs, and excitement for transforming platform integration.
• Experience supporting large projects (6+ months), including contributing to roadmaps for complex, multi-team projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Comfort and excitement with industry AI tools, understanding their impact on developer work.
• Ability to confidently craft and advocate for new design patterns and interaction models beyond current design systems.
• Skill in reducing complex problems to the right balance of flexibility, power, and ease of use, especially when explaining developer experiences to non-technical stakeholders.
• Understanding and experience with the current developer tooling landscape.
• Deep curiosity about the developer space, willing to engage with code.
• Proficiency in leveraging AI tools for rapid prototyping and iteration.
• Experience working horizontally across a company to influence change and advocate for ideas.
• Comfortable presenting work to senior stakeholders.
• Passionate about mentoring other designers in using AI in their process.
• Bonus points for startup or small, fast-moving experimental team experience within a larger organization.

Working remotely at Stripe

A remote location is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you may visit the office for meetings or events, regular work is expected to be from home. Pay and benefits

The annual US base salary range for this role is $188,100 - $282,100. This range may cover multiple career levels and will be refined during interviews based on experience, qualifications, and location. Non-US applicants can request their local salary range during the interview process. Additional benefits may include equity, company bonus, 401(k) plan, medical, dental, vision benefits, and wellness stipends.
