About The Team

The Product Design team collaborates to define, create, and deliver all user-facing aspects of the Stripe brand and product. The Developer AI team is an ambitious, boundary-pushing group focused on reimagining Stripe’s developer experience for the AI era. We leverage the latest LLMs and AI engineering techniques to streamline and automate the building and maintaining of Stripe integrations, exploring entirely new ways to build alongside developers.

Some Areas We’re Currently Working On

• Re-imagining the zero-to-one integration experience for developers building on Stripe’s APIs.
• Bringing Stripe knowledge (docs, reference, support, etc.) directly to developer fingertips through tools like our powerful MCP server.
• Collaborating with partners, such as v0, to build entirely new ways for users to get set up and take payments in minutes.
• Reducing the pain of API migrations and upgrades using AI tools for a more magical experience.
• Exploring new, boundary-pushing ways AI can improve the overall Developer Experience.

What You’ll Do as a Staff Product Designer, Developer AI

As a Staff Product Designer, Developer AI, you will be instrumental in designing the future of AI for developers and setting new industry standards in AI tooling. You will shape Stripe's developer experience through an AI lens, impacting how AI tools interact with payments at scale and pushing the boundaries of the developer journey.

We seek a designer who is doggedly curious, technically adept yet creative, deeply familiar with the AI landscape, and obsessed with the intersection of code, design, and systems thinking. If you’re a designer who embraces prototyping with AI tools, we want to talk.

Responsibilities

• Design and prototype innovative new developer tools and experiences from the ground up, powered by AI.
• Understand the evolving AI industry and apply that knowledge to craft groundbreaking AI experiences for developers.
• Create boundary-pushing AI experiences, thinking beyond current patterns to imagine the future.
• Experiment with new interaction models and patterns for AI tools that set industry standards.
• Transform ambiguous developer problems into concrete products, from proposal to launch.
• Comfortably build with AI yourself, prototyping ideas using these tools as part of your design process. This role leads through AI prototyping, fostering a cultural shift in design.
• Directly shape the developer experience roadmap alongside engineers by pitching novel ideas.
• Collaborate closely with partner teams (Developer Products, Connect, Merchant Experience) and across the organization to elevate developer experiences for all users.
• Advocate for AI's role in assisting users across internal teams, ensuring understanding of its impact on product delivery.
• Participate regularly in design reviews and share your work with design and company leadership.

Who You Are

We encourage applications from candidates who meet the minimum requirements. Preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a strict requirement. We are especially interested in designers with a coding background or a strong prototyping practice, as this is crucial for the role.

Minimum Requirements

• 8+ years of relevant design experience at a tech, product-driven company.
• Experience working on developer tools, collaborating with developers, or writing code yourself.
• Experience using, building, or designing for AI tools, with strong opinions on excellent AI experiences (side projects count!).
• A deep understanding of developers, their needs, and excitement for transforming platform integration.
• Experience supporting large projects (6+ months), contributing to roadmaps for complex, multi-team projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Comfort and excitement with industry-wide AI tools and an understanding of their impact on developers.
• Ability to confidently craft and advocate for new design patterns and interaction models beyond current systems.
• Skill in simplifying complex problems into the right balance of flexibility, power, and ease of use, especially for non-technical stakeholders.
• Understanding and experience with the developer tooling landscape.
• Deep curiosity about the developer space, willing to engage with code.
• Proficiency in leveraging AI tools for rapid prototyping and iteration.
• Experience working horizontally across a company to influence change and advocate for ideas.
• Comfortable presenting work to senior stakeholders.
• Passionate about mentoring other designers in using AI within their process.
• Bonus: Experience at a startup or a small, fast-moving experimental team within a larger organization.

Working Remotely at Stripe

A remote location is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you are welcome to visit an office for meetings or events, the expectation is regular work from home. Stripe does not cover relocation costs for remote roles. We encourage applying for roles that match your current or planned residential location.

Pay and Benefits

The annual US base salary range for this role is $188,100 - $282,100. This range may cover multiple career levels and will be refined during the interview process based on experience, qualifications, and location. Non-US applicants can inquire about the salary range for their location during interviews.

Additional benefits may include equity, company bonus, 401(k) plan, medical, dental, and vision benefits, and wellness stipends.
