About The Team
The Privacy Products team at Stripe focuses on building trust that Stripe is a responsible steward of user data, managing privacy risks, and enabling business growth. This is achieved through industry-leading privacy products and foundational privacy infrastructure. These solutions provide transparency, choices, and controls to users regarding their data, and tools for customers to manage their privacy. The infrastructure also ensures Stripe engineers meet user expectations and regulatory requirements for handling and safeguarding data. Stripe’s user-first operating principles mean businesses and consumers who use payments through Stripe need to trust Stripe to process their data. Protecting our user’s data and prioritizing privacy is how we put users first.
What You'll Do as a Backend / API Engineer, Privacy Products
As a Backend / API Engineer, Privacy Products at Stripe, you will be instrumental in building products that customers and consumers use for privacy management. Your portfolio will include customer-facing tools like the Data Access Tool within a privacy portal and a new redaction API. Internally, you'll work on libraries and tooling such as cookie and consent frameworks, and data access and deletion pipelines. This role significantly impacts Stripe's overall privacy posture, requiring close collaboration with product owners, engineering teams, privacy legal, and operations teams. Your work is not only impactful; it is critical to the long-term success of Stripe and our users.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and extend external-facing privacy products such as the data access tool and privacy portal.
- Build API products for customers to help them manage their privacy requirements.
- Develop internal tools that help other Stripe teams manage their privacy requirements.
- Build and extend our critical data access and deletion pipelines.
- Collaborate effectively with users and cross-functional teams to enhance Stripe's privacy systems.
Who You Are
We are seeking candidates who meet the minimum requirements, with preferred qualifications being a bonus.
Minimum Requirements
- 6+ years of professional hands-on software development experience.
- Strong empathy, excellent communication skills, and a deep appreciation for collaboration.
- Ability to work effectively individually, across teams, and cross-functionally.
- Proven ability to define clear next steps in ambiguous situations without clear ownership lines.
- Excellent problem-solving skills coupled with meticulous attention to detail.
- High standards for code quality and a constructive approach to elevating team standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and implementing technical solutions to address them.
- Proficiency in complex data pipelines handling large datasets.
- Prior experience in designing and building user-facing privacy tools.
- Experience with Ruby or Java in production environments.
