About the role
About the Role
We're looking for a cinematography intern to help build a video series into the definitive show on frontier technology. You'll be shooting interviews with inventor-founders, capturing short-form content for LinkedIn and YouTube, and helping establish the visual language of a deep tech brand.
This role is ideal for someone who wants to build a portfolio at the intersection of visual storytelling and deep tech, and who gets excited about making complex, technical subjects look and feel cinematic.
What You'll Do
- Shoot interview and conversation-format episodes (in-studio and on location)
- Own the production workflow: plan the shoot, set up the space, capture the footage, organize and label raw files, perform rough cuts, prep timeline and assets for editor handoff, and manage delivery of final exports across platforms
- Produce short-form video content (60-90 second clips) optimized for LinkedIn, YouTube Shorts, and X, from selecting the right moments in a long-form conversation to cutting them into standalone pieces that work without context
- Maintain an organized media library: footage ingestion, folder structure, naming conventions, proxy workflows
- Collaborate directly with the founder on creative direction, episode planning, and guest prep
- Occasionally shoot portfolio company content, founder profiles, product demos, and event coverage
Who You Are
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a film, cinematography, or visual arts program, or self-taught with a strong reel to prove it
- Portfolio that shows you can make talking-head content feel elevated, not boring. Interview-format, documentary, or essay-style work is a strong plus
- Comfortable owning the full pipeline end to end: camera setup, lighting, audio capture, rough assembly, color, and export. Fluent in social-native video formats. You know what works on LinkedIn vs. YouTube vs. TikTok and why, and you can turn a 60-minute conversation into five clips that each stand on their own
- Proficient in editing software (Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut) and comfortable working in shared project files where someone else may do the final polish
- Curious about technology. You don't need to understand transformer architectures, but you should be the kind of person who finds it interesting when someone explains them to you
- Self-directed. This is a small team. You'll have real ownership and creative latitude, which means you need to be able to run with a brief, not wait for one
What You Get
- Hands-on experience building a media brand from early innings. this isn't joining an established production team, it's helping create one
- A reel full of interviews with some of the most interesting technical founders in the world
- Direct mentorship from a founder who takes content seriously as a strategic asset
- Exposure to the venture capital and deep tech ecosystem in San Francisco
Logistics
- Location: San Francisco (in-person). Hybrid possible after onboarding.
- Duration: 3-6 months, with potential to extend
