Registered Nurse - North 3 (Med/Surg/ Telemetry) - Full Time Night
Position Summary
Works under the direction of the Nurse Manager. Functions as a Team Leader. Responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all nursing activities related directly or indirectly to patient care for a group of patients within a specific clinical area. Evaluate patient’s physical and psychosocial needs, administers direct patient care, and provides education for the patient/significant other. Responsible for all nursing personnel assigned to the Team. Teaches and/or demonstrates nursing care procedures. Maintains a professional profile. Promotes cooperation, a positive attitude, and creates a safe environment for both patients and staff. Responsible for knowing and adhering to established hospital policies and procedures, including all aspects of safety.
Job Duties & Essential Functions
- Assess the patient’s condition and nursing needs; coordinate nursing care activities with other health disciplines involved in the treatment effort to relate and integrate the nursing regimen with the treatment plan for patients.
- Develop a written individualized care plan which includes teaching needs and discharge planning.
- Administer direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are needed.
- Administer medication.
- Practice infection control and participate in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.
- Assume responsibility and accountability for the delivery of nursing care to all assigned patients. Communicate changes in patient’s condition and questions regarding patient care to Charge RN/Clinician.
- Develop and maintain a current written plan of care for assigned patients. Set priorities to meet the patient’s needs. Set patient goals and priorities with the patient and/or family.
- Provide document evidence in the medical record of patient/family teaching and their responses and understanding of the teaching. Ensure that patient education and instructions are consistent with that of the physician or designee.
- Communicate and work effectively with other staff and other departments.
- Participate in unit or hospital-based quality assurance activities or committees to contribute to the advancement of the nursing profession at SBSH.
Required Experience And Qualifications
- Graduation from a School of Nursing.
- Current Licensure to practice in State.
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
- PALS provider certification from the American Heart Association required.
- Current ACLS provider certification from the American Heart Association required within 3 months of hire.
- New Grads need PALS and ACLS from the American Heart Association within 6 months of hire.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Standing, walking 90% of the time.
- Lifting patients with or without assistance.
- Pushing heavy objects.
As part of employment at Southampton Hospital, there may be occasions when travel to other locations is needed to support operational needs.

Anticipated Pay Range
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBSH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:
- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Employee Health Services*
- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
- Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
- Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.
The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.
