Position Summary

The MV Research Specialist I performs routine and specialized research on motor vehicle title records to protect Oklahoma customers. The role includes reviewing title records, investigating discrepancies, and ensuring compliance with tax laws.

Position Responsibilities

The Specialist is responsible for:

  • Reviewing and recording brand titles and updating the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System.
  • Researching title records including title history, missing liens, odometer discrepancies, and VIN discrepancies.
  • Responding to inquiries from telephone, mail, fax, email, and MLA messages for licensed operators, lien holders, other states, and stakeholders.
  • Interpreting tax laws and referring complex questions internally.
  • Reviewing documents for vehicles, boats, and motor titles to ensure tax compliance.
  • Identifying discrepancies in tax documents and managing foreclosure actions on vehicles and related outcomes.
  • Preparing research request documents for imaging and assisting with special projects as assigned.
  • Cross-training in other sections as necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Familiarity with accounting terminology and record maintenance.
  • Excellent customer service and effective communication skills.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and enforce rules and regulations.
  • Proficiency in inspecting and verifying records.

Education & Experience

Level I: Associate’s degree in accounting, business administration, public administration, or related field; or two years of relevant experience per year of required education.

Special Requirements

The role requires schedule flexibility including early/late shifts, weekends, and occasional overtime. The job is office-based with minimal travel and requires physical ability to stand and lift items (10-50 pounds) with assistance as needed.
