Overview
The Summer Materials Intern will sample and test general construction and maintenance materials to ensure compliance with state highway construction and maintenance specifications. This position is under moderate supervision and will be filled at a salary no higher than the posted maximum salary.
What You’ll Do
- Sample and test construction materials such as steel, pipe, paint, asphalt, and cement.
- Test fine and coarse aggregate production for quality and gradation compliance.
- Prepare samples for bituminous trial mixes and coordinate with contractors.
- Perform inspection duties at plants producing bituminous mixtures.
- Inspect prestressed or precast concrete and sample federal aid project materials.
- Maintain records of test results and product reports.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must be enrolled in a relevant bachelor's or post-bachelor's degree program (ABET-accredited for engineering candidates), maintain a GPA of at least 2.0, and have completed at least 30 credit hours.
