We are seeking an experienced Principal/Lead/Senior Protection & Control Engineer with a strong background in the energy sector. Due to our continued success, we are looking to expand our team with a highly skilled Senior Principal Protection & Control Design Engineer.
Being part of our P&C community offers exciting opportunities to work on diverse projects across multiple technical disciplines with clients nationwide in the UK. Projects may include HVDC, interconnectors, wind farms, substations, OHL, geotechnical solutions, building design, protection systems, LVAC, FEED, new builds, refurbishment works, and connection schemes.
As a Senior Principal Protection & Control Design Engineer, you will lead and collaborate with a passionate team on projects up to 400kV. You will guide projects from concept through detailed design and provide support during construction and energisation. Ideally, you will have experience working with key Transmission & Distribution (T&D) clients in the UK.
Additionally, you’ll have the chance to work on innovative projects focusing on standardisation, technology assessment, and collaboration with our suppliers on new products and services. You will join a growing and collaborative team, partnering with various clients to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to industry-wide efficiency and environmental challenges. Your Role
- Develop scoping documentation and Main Connections & Protection Diagrams.
- Review Protection & Control Designs developed by third parties.
- Specify P&C related equipment and plant such as relays, CTs, and VTs.
- Produce detailed designs including AC/DC schematics.
- Conduct protection grading studies, produce relay files and settings.
- Review Commissioning Plans and attend Commissioning Panel meetings.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in electrical engineering or a related field.
- Experience working on Distribution Networks as a Senior/Principal Protection & Control Design Engineer.
- Knowledge and experience with protection relays and relay panels, CT & VT sizing calculations, protection grading studies, and producing detailed AC/DC drawings.
- Familiarity with UK electrical practices and standards and an understanding/appreciation of CDM regulations.
- High regard for safety with demonstrable experience in risk mitigation.
- Experience working with National Grid processes.
