The AI & Technology Initiatives Librarian at Stanford University drives innovation in legal technology at Stanford Law School through risk-aware pilots and thoughtful rollouts. This hybrid role, critical and specifically funded, bridges technology and pedagogy, enhancing teaching and research.
Job Purpose
This role develops long-term strategy, policies, and services integrating emerging AI tools responsibly. The librarian leads implementations, manages pilots, coordinates with IT, faculty, and library staff, and contributes to teaching and workshops on responsible AI use.
Core Duties
- Teaching Responsibilities: Design and deliver workshops, create online guides, and mentor staff.
- Operational Excellence: Manage pilots, vendor rollouts, risk controls and operationalize risk management frameworks.
- AI Governance: Lead intake reviews, maintain risk registers, and align implementations with policy.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with Data Science & AI Librarian, IT, legal, and faculty to ensure cohesive support.
- Technical Implementation: Build light automation, integrate APIs, and manage technical configurations.
Success Metrics
Metrics include number of pilots completed, time-to-launch, review success rates, ROI, and user satisfaction.
Technology Scope
This position spans from AI-specific platforms to related technologies such as LMS tools, legal research platforms, content management, and programming environments like Python and Jupyter.
Minimum Requirements
An advanced degree in Library Science or equivalent experience along with five or more years in an academic or research library setting are required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience in legal technology, project management, digital accessibility, and risk management is essential. Familiarity with APIs, SSO configuration, and foundational coding skills is preferred.
