Research Data Analyst - Stanford University School of Medicine
Stanford University is seeking a Research Data Analyst to manage and analyze large amounts of technical or scientific information independently with minimal supervision. This full-time researcher position is within Stanford’s Department of Health Policy and Stanford Population Health Sciences (PHS).
About the Role
The position is expected to start in June 2026, with flexibility on the exact start date. It is a one-year term with the possibility of renewal for a second year. The researcher will focus on projects analyzing administrative Medicaid data to study the impacts of policies and interventions on low-income children, women, and other Medicaid recipients. Collaboration with the Center for Population Health Sciences (PHS) will involve curating and linking Medicaid data to electronic health records for new research projects. You will serve as an expert resource and potential collaborator for students, faculty, and other researchers working with Medicaid data.

Key Responsibilities
- Prioritize and extract data from various sources (notes, surveys, medical reports, lab data), ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Determine additional data collection and reporting requirements.
- Design and customize reports based on database information.
- Oversee and monitor regulatory compliance for data utilization.
- Identify and correct data inaccuracies using system reports and analyses, or justify solutions for others to implement.
- Create complex charts and databases, perform statistical analyses, and develop graphs and tables for publications and presentations.
- Serve as a resource for non-routine inquiries, such as requests for statistics or surveys.
- Test prototype software and participate in new software approval processes.
- Provide documentation to investigators and research staff based on audit and reporting criteria.
- Develop and apply novel data curation, metadata, econometric, and analytic techniques to healthcare claims data.
- Learn from and collaborate with renowned data science and health experts on complex projects using large-scale administrative datasets.
- Implement data analysis through statistical programming.
- Mentor clinical investigators on relevant research methods.
- Identify appropriate statistical tools for analysis.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience. A PhD in economics, health policy, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: Experience in a quantitative discipline (e.g., economics, finance, statistics, engineering). Expertise in health care claims data, data management, annotation, and using these datasets for population health.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in at least two of R, SAS, SPSS, SQL, or STATA. Skills in descriptive analysis, causal inference, and data modeling.
- Soft Skills: Excellent writing and analytical skills. Outstanding ability to communicate technical information to diverse audiences. Demonstrated excellence in at least one area (e.g., coordinating studies, statistical methodology, statistical computing). Ability to prioritize workload. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for scientific community feedback, documentation, and contributing to literature/grant applications.

Compensation and Benefits
The expected pay range for this position is $108,002 to $128,138 per annum. The final salary will depend on factors such as scope of responsibilities, qualifications, departmental budget, internal equity, location, and market pay.
