Job Summary

The Parish Finance Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of accounting including general ledger, account receivable, accounts payable, payroll, reconciliations, and donations (excluding the parish's school). The role reports directly to the Pastor and operates under general supervision with wide latitude for independent judgment and initiative.

Ministerial Character

The Coordinator assists the Pastor in extending ministry at St. Helen Catholic Church, upholding Catholic ministry and Gospel values, and collaborating with clerics, religious, or lay people.

Essential Job Duties

  • Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry.
  • Prepare, maintain, and recommend the parish budget.
  • Attend and prepare financial reports for Finance Council meetings.
  • Manage parish investments, bank accounts, checks, deposits, and reconciliations.
  • Process invoices, vendor forms, and ensure compliance with IRS regulations.
  • Administer bi-weekly payroll including retirement contributions and health insurance.
  • Supervise weekly collections, deposits and prepare stewardship reports.
  • Coordinate the annual Catholic Services Appeal and Fall Festival finances.
  • Maintain availability to serve parish needs beyond standard hours.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • In-depth knowledge of Roman Catholic teachings and parish structures.
  • Proficiency in accounting principles, budgeting, and Quick Books.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization and confidentiality skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and multi-cultural settings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited American University.
  • Minimum two years of related work experience.
  • CPA Certification and a valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
  • Compliance with Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies.
