Job Description

Square Associate Product Manager Program

Since opening its doors in 2009, Square has evolved immensely alongside the world of commerce. Initially enabling anyone to take payments, Square recognized sellers were hindered by disparate tools and expanded into integrated, omnichannel software solutions. These solutions help sellers manage inventory, sell online, offer buy now, pay later, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and manage staff and payroll. Financial services tools are embedded at the point of sale, allowing merchants to access business loans and manage cash flow efficiently. Afterpay further supports Square’s goal to provide comprehensive omnichannel tools that drive value and growth, helping sellers attract the next generation of shoppers and increase order sizes.

Today, Square partners with sellers of all sizes, from large enterprises with complex operations to those just starting or growing with Square over time. As sellers grow, so do Square's solutions, indicating a massive opportunity ahead. Square is building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, empowering sellers worldwide to do the same.

The Program

This is a full-time, 12-month rotational program designed to cultivate the next generation of AI-native product leaders. Associate Product Managers (APMs) will join various teams across Square to learn modern product development, with a core focus on AI, and help shape the future of commerce.

Far from a simple job shadow, this program is a launchpad for emerging product leaders who demonstrate curiosity, speed, and leverage AI as an extension of their creative and technical capabilities. Participants will work on real products used by millions, benefiting from robust mentorship, a supportive community, and a structure engineered to accelerate growth.

The Role

As an Associate Product Manager, you will directly contribute to product teams addressing real-world challenges for Square’s global sellers. You will collaborate closely with engineering, design, research, data science, and AI teams to explore opportunities, define problems, prototype solutions, and deliver impactful work.

Rotations will provide exposure to diverse product surfaces, customer segments, and technical environments, spanning from commerce and payments to AI-assisted workflows and experimental product spaces. APMs are expected to operate as AI-native builders, rapidly prototyping with modern AI tools, utilizing data and models to deepen insights, and employing AI assistants to expand their reach and velocity.

Each APM’s journey is unique; your background and strengths will influence your placements, while your initiative and perspective will define the scope of your work.

What You'll Get

APMs will gain hands-on product experience at scale, direct exposure to the teams driving Square’s AI strategy, and mentorship from leaders at the forefront of product development. You will work transparently, contribute to critical decisions, and see your ideas materialize in products used globally. This is an unparalleled opportunity to develop world-class PM craft while pushing the boundaries of AI-enabled product building.

What You'll Bring

Square welcomes a diverse range of academic backgrounds and experiences. Prior product management experience is not mandatory; what truly matters is your potential as an AI-native builder.

  • 2-5 years of work experience in a related field, OR
  • Degree in business, data/analytics, computer science, or engineering, plus an internship in a related field.
  • Hands-on use of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Replit, v0, ML models, data workflows) in academic, professional, or side projects.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Passion for product building and alignment with Square’s mission of economic empowerment.

A technical or design background is a plus, but not required. Square values initiative, clarity of thinking, and the ability to learn rapidly.

How To Apply

A traditional portfolio is not required. Instead, please submit:

  • Your Resume
  • An example of your work (AI-related work is highly recommended)
  • Responses to the application questions

Applications are open until February 27th and will be reviewed on a rolling basis. You can expect to hear from a recruiter no later than March 2nd.

Program Details

  • Start date: June 2026
  • Duration: 12-month program with two 6-month rotations.
  • Outcome: After successfully completing the 12-month program, APMs will launch into a Product role at Square.
  • Location: Fully remote, with one week of in-person onboarding and quarterly meet-ups.
