A significant innovation from Spotify is Backstage, an open-source platform initially developed to manage the complexities of scaling engineering organizations. Backstage has since become a leading solution for building developer portals. Complementing this, Spotify now offers Portal, a commercial SaaS product designed to further reduce cognitive load and scale R&D efforts for companies worldwide.

This particular role is situated within PDX Insights, the specialized data science team supporting Platform Developer Experience. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will work hand-in-hand with Product, User Research, Design, and Engineering teams, leveraging data-informed decision-making to guide the strategic evolution of both Backstage and Portal.

What You'll Do as a Senior Data Scientist

• Partner closely with Product Managers to influence roadmaps using robust product insights.
• Formulate strong opinions on which signals are most critical at various stages of the product lifecycle.
• Define and continuously evolve core product metrics related to adoption, engagement, and long-term value, directly supporting strategic product decisions.
• Analyze comprehensive product usage data to pinpoint opportunities for enhancing the developer experience.
• Frame clear success criteria and articulate trade-offs to effectively support product prioritization efforts.
• Design intricate analyses and experiments to provide data-backed insights for product investments.
• Communicate complex insights clearly and compellingly to senior stakeholders across the entire Platform organization.
• Actively contribute to fostering a culture of continuous learning, collaborative teamwork, and thoughtful, impactful use of data.

Who You Are

• Possess extensive experience in influencing product direction through data in complex or rapidly evolving product landscapes.
• Exhibit pragmatism and conviction in measurement strategies, aligning them directly with overarching product goals.
• Demonstrate solid analytical foundations, including proficiency in SQL, experimentation design, and statistical reasoning.
• Communicate with exceptional clarity and thrive in close collaborative environments with Product, User Research, Design, and Engineering teams.

Where You'll Be

This Senior Data Scientist position is based in either London or Stockholm. Spotify offers a flexible work environment where you can choose where you work best! While there will be some in-person meetings for collaboration, the role still allows for significant flexibility to work from home.
