Backend Engineer - Data Infrastructure

Overview

Spotify is looking for a Backend Engineer - Data Infrastructure to join our Data Infrastructure engineering organization. You will help teams at Spotify build analytics for both internal and music industry facing tools.

What You Will Do

You will build, operate, and evolve a data analytics platform, including backend services and an OLAP data store (Druid). You will build internal tooling, libraries, and services that streamline integration patterns across Spotify. In this role, you will advocate for best practices in service design, data modeling, schema evolution, and contract testing. You will work in an autonomous, cross-functional environment and collaborate with various squads to continuously iterate and deliver new product objectives.

Who You Are

You have 3+ years of experience with distributed datastores and backend services. You are proficient in Java and eager to learn technologies like Kubernetes and Terraform. You understand data modeling, dimensional schemas, and analytical querying, and have experience building internal developer tools. You take strong ownership of service quality and operational excellence and have familiarity with OLAP databases, such as Druid. You are comfortable with metrics-driven development using tools like Prometheus and Grafana, and are a good communicator and empathetic listener.

Where You’ll Be

This role is based in New York City with flexible work arrangements including remote work and periodic in-person meetings.
