About the role
ML Platform Engineer at Speechmatics
Speechmatics is seeking an ML Platform Engineer to build and evolve the platform that takes machine learning models from research to scalable production. This role operates at the intersection of machine learning, infrastructure, and software engineering, partnering with ML engineers to enhance performance, reliability, cost efficiency, and the overall maturity of the ML platform.
Responsibilities
- Designing, building, and maintaining scalable ML platforms, tools, and infrastructure.
- Modernizing the ML platform by migrating workloads to Kubernetes-based orchestration systems (Slurm or Ray).
- Updating ML workflows with tools for pipeline orchestration, experiment tracking, observability, and model versioning.
- Optimizing ML infrastructure for GPU utilization, scheduling, and distributed training.
- Building and maintaining CI/CD workflows for ML systems.
- Collaborating with ML engineers to ensure models are deployable and reproducible.
- Evaluating new tools and frameworks to improve the ML platform.
- Promoting operational excellence through automation and reliability improvements.
- Contributing to the ML platform roadmap, tooling standards, and best practices.
Who We Are Looking For
- Python skills for production systems.
- Proven ability to optimize model training and inference, including GPU and distributed workloads.
- Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Strong background in monitoring, observability, and reliability for ML platforms.
- Hands-on experience across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid infrastructure.
- Solid understanding of ML fundamentals.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, version control, reproducible workflows, and ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow).
- Experience with large-scale data/AI platforms, experiment tracking, and governance.
- Strong cross-team collaboration skills.
