With its roots in Vancouver, the company's technology is vital for on-demand microtransit and modern paratransit systems, ensuring reliable mobility for communities worldwide. Currently partnering with over 200 cities across four continents, Spare facilitates tens of thousands of rides daily. Following a successful $42M Series B funding round led by Inovia Capital, Spare is poised for significant growth and is actively seeking a Vice President People to spearhead its organizational scaling and cultural enhancement.

The Opportunity

This is a critical leadership role within a dynamic company experiencing strong momentum and delivering meaningful societal impact. As the Vice President People, you will collaborate closely with Spare's founders and executive team to formulate and execute the company's people strategy at scale. Your mandate will include developing robust systems, structures, and leadership practices essential for attracting top-tier talent, sustaining high performance, and supporting team growth. You will comprehensively oversee the entire People function, encompassing performance management, compensation, employee engagement, leadership development, and strategic workforce planning, while establishing the necessary infrastructure for a rapidly expanding global technology enterprise. This role offers an unparalleled opportunity to shape the foundational people strategy of a mission-driven organization committed to improving mobility for millions globally.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and Scale the People Strategy: Own Spare’s comprehensive People strategy, covering performance management, compensation, engagement, learning and development, and workforce planning. Establish clear frameworks for career progression, promotions, and performance expectations across the organization. Ensure People practices evolve with the company’s growth and align with best-in-class HR and People Operations standards.
  • Create Scalable Systems and Infrastructure: Lead the development of scalable People systems and processes, including HRIS, performance reviews, onboarding, and compensation structures. Implement data-informed processes to enhance transparency and improve the employee and manager experience. Establish consistent operating rhythms such such as feedback cycles, calibration sessions, and leadership coaching.
  • Strengthen a High-Performance Culture: Champion Spare’s feedback-driven, high-expectation culture through effective systems, leadership behaviors, and clear standards. Partner with founders and executives on organizational design, succession planning, and talent strategy. Ensure high-performing employees are continuously challenged, supported, and retained.
  • Lead and Grow the People Team: Build and develop a high-performing People and Talent team capable of scaling alongside the business. Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and impact within the function. Support the continued development of Spare’s collaborative, ego-free workplace culture.
  • Influence Across the Organization: Communicate clearly with leadership, managers, and employees on People priorities and initiatives. Build alignment across departments to support the company’s growth and evolving organizational needs. Present People insights and metrics to the executive team and board to inform strategic decisions.

What You Bring

  • Significant experience leading People or HR functions within a high-growth technology company or startup environment.
  • Deep expertise in people operations, performance management, compensation design, and HR systems.
  • A track record of building and scaling high-performing People teams.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence founders, senior leaders, and managers.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, feedback-driven environment with high expectations.
  • A thoughtful, systems-oriented approach to building scalable organizational infrastructure.
