About SpaceX

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing technologies to enable human life on Mars.

Sr. Welding Engineer, Combustion Devices Manufacturing

This role is focused on amplifying the welding capabilities of the Raptor program through the development, implementation and optimization of production processes for key engine subassemblies and components. You will work with engineers, technicians, and other stakeholders to ensure reliable and manufacturable hardware for one of the world’s most powerful rocket engines.

Responsibilities

  • Support operation of welding machines and guide manufacturing engineers and welders.
  • Maintain and provide technical oversight for welding assets and training.
  • Collaborate with design, tooling, automation, and development engineers to improve welded designs.
  • Perform root cause analysis on weld or process failures and facilitate feedback loops.
  • Work with NDE personnel to assess weld quality and develop innovative inspection techniques.
  • Drive innovation in welding technologies, including automation support for high rate production.

Basic and Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline; Master’s preferred.
  • 5+ years of hands-on fabrication, manufacturing, or testing of welded assemblies.
  • Experience with various welding processes and materials including nickel-based alloys, stainless steel, and copper.
  • Robot programming and tooling design experience for welding solutions.
  • Expertise in weld strength testing, metallographic interpretation, and root cause analysis.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Requirements

This is a hands-on position requiring prolonged standing, bending, and occasional travel, long hours, or weekend work.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary range is $125,000 to $175,000 per year, with additional long-term incentive options, stock benefits, comprehensive healthcare, retirement plans, and paid time off.
