Role Overview
AUTOMATION & CONTROLS ENGINEER (STARSHIP LAUNCH HARDWARE)
This role focuses on designing and activating the control systems that build and launch the Starship, the world's most powerful launch vehicle, at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Base.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop new and existing control systems.
- Architect, write, and debug organized PLC code.
- Implement controls network infrastructure and interfaces to data acquisition systems.
- Design, operate, upgrade, and maintain SCADA infrastructure.
- Create electrical, pneumatic, and fluid schematics and panels compliant with NFPA79/NEC/UL508A.
- Manage equipment checkouts, activation testing, and troubleshooting of ground support tools.
- Provide innovative solutions and support in challenging operational environments.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mechatronics, or a related field.
- 1+ years in instrumentation power systems design, data acquisition systems, or programmable controllers.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Hands-on experience with electronics test rack design, data acquisition, and industrial applications.
- Experience with PLC programming (Siemens TIA Portal preferred), HMI/SCADA (Ignition), and electrical schematic CAD (EPlan).
- Proficiency in C#, .NET, Python, and SQL.
- Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 79, and UL508A codes.
Additional Requirements
- Availability for weekend and night shifts as needed.
- Willingness to travel up to 15% to other launch sites.
- Ability to pass an Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral.
- Physical ability to perform lifting, standing, climbing, and related tasks.
