Job Overview
SpaceX is at the forefront of space exploration, developing technologies for a future where humanity explores the stars. The Automation & Controls Engineer role in Starship Launch Hardware will be central in designing and activating the systems that build and launch the Starship spacecraft and Super Heavy rocket.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop control systems critical to launch operations.
- Architect, write, and debug PLC code for manufacturing applications.
- Implement controls network infrastructure and interfaces to data acquisition systems.
- Operate, upgrade, and maintain SCADA infrastructure at launch sites.
- Lay out compliant industrial electrical control panels and schematics.
- Manage electrical cabinet builds, field wiring, and activation testing.
- Provide troubleshooting support for active ground support equipment.
- Offer innovative solutions for specialized equipment and challenging environments.
Basic and Preferred Qualifications
The candidate should hold a Bachelor’s degree in electrical, computer, mechatronics or related engineering. Required experience includes instrumentation power systems design, data acquisition systems, and programmable controllers. Preferred skills include hands-on experience with electronics test rack design, SCADA programming, PLC programming (Siemens TIA Portal), and knowledge of NEC, NFPA 79, UL508A codes.
Additional Requirements & ITAR
This role requires flexibility with work hours (including weekends and night shifts), travel up to 15%, and passing an Air Force background check. ITAR requirements apply; applicants must meet U.S. Government export regulations. SpaceX is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
