Sr. Mechanical Engineer (Critical Infrastructure)

As a member of the construction and infrastructure team, you will design, build, and activate some of the world’s most technically advanced manufacturing facilities. You will be the subject matter expert on all HVAC, compressed air, piping, dust collection and other critical fluid systems at HQ. You will utilize your knowledge, experience, and creativity to develop novel solutions at the cutting edge of space technology. This role involves design, analysis, testing, and manufacturing of fluid system elements. You will collaborate with construction engineers, architects, and internal customers to support these goals and drive global impact, ultimately helping make life multiplanetary.

Responsibilities

  • Own and be the subject matter expert on fluid/HVAC components.
  • Perform CAD modeling and design of systems, ensuring manufacturability.
  • Conduct fluid analyses and component design evaluations.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across SpaceX programs.
  • Assist with material selection, sizing, and procurement support.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of professional experience with fluids components.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Master’s degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with fluid handling systems and related instrumentation.
  • Experience with HVAC systems and NX or other CAD packages.
  • Familiarity with GD&T (ASME Y14.5-1994) and tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Experience in structural analysis for pressurized or lightweight aerospace structures.
  • Ability to work independently.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to work extended hours and/or weekends when needed.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay range: $125,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year. Salary is determined case-by-case based on job-related knowledge, skills, education, and experience. In addition to base salary, you may be eligible for long-term incentives, discretionary bonuses, and various benefits including comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, 401(k) retirement plan, paid leave, and other perks.
