Join the Backend Engineering team behind a highly scalable, distributed platform for ML observability. Python and Go are the primary languages for these distributed systems, alongside services and tools written in TypeScript.

This is a senior/staff-level opportunity to join the core team driving product innovation — working on some of the most impactful engineering challenges in the AI and LLM space. Whether it's computing model evaluation metrics across billions of data points, designing the next generation of the OLAP database architecture, or researching cutting-edge dimensionality reduction techniques, you'll never be short of a technical challenge.

You'll help define how some of the most impactful engineering teams build AI and LLM-powered applications, and how to build the right tools to enable them to do their best work — from clean APIs that instrument applications, to interactive playgrounds for prompt engineering and agent development, to real-time evaluation infrastructure handling millions of annotations per second.~

What You'll Do

• Write maintainable, scalable, and performant backend code primarily in Python and Go, with opportunities to work in TypeScript
• Build high-volume, highly available analytics systems
• Design and build APIs specific to customers' Machine Learning and LLM workflows
• Prototype, optimize, and maintain scalable backend services that power the core platform
• Extend, and contribute back to, open source OLAP databases and distributed message queue frameworks
• Develop and integrate collection tools for robust monitoring of ML and LLM pipelines
• Research and implement cutting-edge visualization and dimensionality reduction algorithms in a distributed environment
• Collaborate closely with product, design, and customer engineering teams to enhance and expand product offerings
• Contribute to building the company's own in-house AI Agents

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of experience working with high-performance backend systems, with proven scope at a senior or staff level
• Strong experience writing Python, Go, TypeScript/Node, or similar server programming languages
• Genuine, hands-on experience in the Gen AI/LLM space, with a real desire to build in this area
• A mix of startup and big tech experience — comfortable with startup pace and ownership, backed by the rigour of scaled engineering environments
• Track record of building and operating highly complex SaaS platforms/systems
• Solid knowledge of public clouds and container orchestration — AWS, GCP, Azure, Kubernetes~

Bonus Points

• Experience with distributed stream processing — Kafka, Gazette, or similar
• Experience with OLAP systems
• Familiarity with system observability tooling such as Prometheus
• Working knowledge of Machine Learning and/or Data Science

Location & Ways of Working

This role is fully remote, with a remote-first culture and offices available in New York City and the San Francisco Bay Area for those who prefer to work in-person. A monthly WFH stipend is provided to cover co-working space costs.

Compensation

Base salary up to £225,000, commensurate with experience and level (Senior/Staff).
