Job Description

Position Overview

Southwestern Community College is seeking a dedicated Adjunct Geology Instructor for an anticipated start in Fall 2026 (August 3, 2026). This is a semester-based adjunct appointment with renewal potential based on enrollment and performance. The primary purpose is to teach geology courses in accordance with established course outlines and the published schedule, delivering all content fully online asynchronously.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver engaging geology courses entirely online asynchronously.
  • Maintain accurate student records and submit all required college reports promptly.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and administrators on program planning, assessment, and continuous improvement.
  • Regularly prepare, review, and update course outlines.
  • Recommend and assist with curriculum revisions as needed.
  • Assist with the selection and ordering of equipment, supplies, and textbooks.
  • Support student retention and success through timely communication and constructive feedback.
  • Cooperate in scheduled student evaluations of instructor and courses.
  • Attend instructor and departmental meetings as scheduled.
  • Maintain professional competence through ongoing professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following:

  • Master’s degree in Geology OR
  • Master’s degree in a closely related discipline with at least 18 graduate hours in Geology.

Additional Requirements: Ability to use computers and instructional technologies, including course management systems, word processing, email, Internet, and student information systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous community college teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated online teaching experience.
