Overview
Southwest Airlines is seeking a Data Science Engineer Intern Summer 2026 to join our Technology Department. This internship will work with the Ops Lean Portfolio Management Team and provide real-time project experience while working remotely with occasional travel.

Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain data engineering pipeline components.
- Test and troubleshoot data pipelines using SQL, Python, and Java.
- Utilize dashboards for Kubernetes/OpenShift for service diagnostics.
- Support production deployments and post go-live implementations.
- Collaborate with data providers to remove roadblocks.
- Drive automation into daily tasks.
Qualifications
Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent; progress towards an undergraduate or graduate degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science or related field; minimum 2.5 GPA; and U.S. work authorization. Preferred skills include familiarity with SAFe, SQL, Microsoft Excel, and presentation experience.
Additional Information
This is a full-time internship (40 hours per week) scheduled from May 19 – August 7, 2026. Compensation ranges from $25 to $29 per hour based on academic progress. Employees will work primarily remotely, with occasional travel for trainings and conferences. Note that work from home eligibility varies by state.
