Dietitian Consultant at Southbridge Care Homes

Southbridge, a leading owner and operator of long-term care homes and retirement communities, is seeking a highly skilled and passionate Dietitian Consultant to join our dynamic Food and Nutrition team. Reporting directly to the Vice President, Operations, this pivotal role provides essential support and expertise across our portfolio of LTC and Retirement homes, ensuring the highest standards of resident safety and nutritional care.
Responsibilities
- Oversight of Dietary functions for our homes with a strong emphasis on resident safety.
- Consults with medical and other professional staff to accurately determine nutritional needs and therapeutic diets for residents.
- Reviews and provides critical input regarding seasonal menus and recipes utilized across all Southbridge Care Homes.
- Identifies unsafe conditions or practices, taking appropriate action to address them, including educating home-level leadership teams on risk mitigation.
- Ensures nutritional care and hydration program standards, as per the Fixing Long-Term Care Homes Act 2021, are consistently met in collaboration with the Dietary Manager or designate.
- Assists Executive Directors with the recruitment and selection of new Dietary Managers at the home level.
- Provides comprehensive onboarding and ongoing education to new Dietary Managers.
- Maintains and updates policies and procedures within all homes, while leading new initiatives and projects.
- Offers routine consultative support to all homes, including auditing kitchen and food storage areas, meal production sheets, dining service, and overall resident experience.
- Oversees all aspects of quality control for services and products provided/produced by departmental staff.
- Maintains accurate records, statistics, and reports in accordance with internal and external policies and guidelines.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned to support operational excellence.
Qualifications
- A university degree with a major in Food and Nutrition.
- Must be a Registered Dietitian with current membership in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
- At least 3 years of management experience in a long-term care setting in a similar consulting or leadership role.
- Exceptional ability to operate both independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating tact and diplomacy when interacting with residents, staff, and visitors.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Fixing Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2021 and the Retirement Homes Act.
- Excellent project management, time management, and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel extensively throughout Ontario and possession of a reliable vehicle.
