About the Business Analyst Role at SoundThinking

As a Business Analyst at SoundThinking, you will be primarily responsible for gathering, analyzing, and documenting business needs for software projects and enhancements. This role involves translating complex business processes into clear software requirements and specifications, playing a critical part in the development lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Elicit, analyze, and validate business needs from stakeholders, customers, and end-users.
  • Collaborate with project sponsors to define project scope and vision.
  • Translate conceptual requirements into functional specifications comprehensible to the development team.
  • Develop and conduct peer reviews of business requirements for accurate interpretation.
  • Analyze and improve existing requirements-gathering processes.
  • Participate in the QA process by creating test cases to ensure features meet requirements.
  • Create wireframes, workflows, and specifications to refine requirements.
  • Verify requirements for completeness, consistency, feasibility, and conformity to standards.
  • Assist in interpreting customer requirements into feasible options and communicating them to stakeholders.
  • Track and document changes, enhancements, and modifications of business requirements.
  • Utilize standard templates for writing concise requirement specifications.
  • Support legacy-to-CaseBuilder data migration efforts, collaborating with technical and data conversion teams.
  • Assist in data discovery, identifying source systems, owners, and historical data needs.
  • Document detailed data mapping specifications, including transformations, defaults, and validation rules.
  • Define data conversion scope for go-live and historical reference.
  • Support data validation, reviewing converted data with client SMEs for accuracy.
  • Track and resolve data conversion issues through defined governance processes.
  • Assist in obtaining client sign-off on data mappings and conversion assumptions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in Business Analysis, Quality Assurance, Systems Engineering, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of software requirements.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of law enforcement operations.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% to customer sites for information gathering and observation.
