Overview
The Mechanical Engineering Internship/Co-Op at SoundOff Signal involves supporting quality assurance, product engineering, product data management, and technical service. The role requires hands-on assistance in diagnostic testing, inspection, design modifications, prototype development, and repair tasks within a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
Quality Assurance
- Assist with diagnostic tests and incoming inspection.
- Perform first piece inspections using measuring equipment.
- Support root cause analysis on electromechanical assemblies.
- Measure parts and gather data for corrective actions.
- Conduct data analysis to propose improvement ideas.
Product Engineering
- Develop design changes to satisfy corrective actions.
- Assist in design, prototype, tooling, and validation of LED lighting products.
- Design vehicle-specific mounting methods and support on-site customer visits.
- Coordinate, perform, and document in-house testing (photometrics, mechanical, electrical).
- Fabricate and assemble mechanical components.
- Assist in developing mechanical/optical test fixtures.
Product Data Management Project
- Review and reconcile legacy CAD files with current production standards.
- Update part, assembly, and drawing files to new CAD standards.
Technical Service
- Repair miscellaneous lighting products as required.
- Perform additional miscellaneous tasks as assigned.
Requirements
- Enrollment in a Bachelor’s of Mechanical Engineering program.
- Experience in SolidWorks 3D CAD design and PDM.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
- Experience in prototype fabrication, validation or design support.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- General mechanical aptitude in a shop environment.
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs and work with small parts.
- Flexibility in working hours with occasional travel requirements.
