Overview
The Software Engineer Intern role at Sound Transit is a paid internship for college students enrolled in accredited programs in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or relevant fields. Department Overview
The IT Development team at Sound Transit manages Passenger Facing Applications such as Link, Sounder, ST Express, and Tacoma Link. As a Software Engineer Intern, you will support the development and maintenance of these applications and gain insights into managing a large regional transit system.
Primary Responsibilities
Work closely with engineers and solution architects to adhere to approved architecture and design; surface technical risks in code or products; and provide technical support on short-term tasks for the IT development team.
Potential Projects
In this role, you may work on expanding trip planning data, enhancing public-facing applications, and making DevOps improvements to various services.
Minimum Qualifications
Current enrollment in an accredited associate, bachelor's, or graduate program with good academic standing is required.
Additional Skills & Preferred Qualifications
Skills in Java or equivalent language, HTML, REST API, and mobile app development are desirable. Familiarity with Agile development methodologies is a plus. Previous software development experience is preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Work is performed in a standard office environment and may occasionally require visiting job sites. Safety training and appropriate equipment are provided.
