About the role
About the Role
The Deputy CIO (DCIO) is a key executive role within Sound Transit IT, reporting directly to the CIO. This position is responsible for establishing and overseeing the CIO’s Team, functioning as an extension of the CIO, and building strategic relationships across Sound Transit. You will play a critical role in IT strategic planning, evolving the IT operating model, shaping workforce strategy, and developing new internal capabilities. This role also oversees critical cross-functional areas such as governance, performance management, and special projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the IT Leadership Team, providing direction, coordination, and coaching.
- Act as a senior advisor to the CIO and a delegate or proxy when needed.
- Build strategic relationships with other departments to align business needs with agency priorities.
- Facilitate the development and communication of IT strategy, roadmap, and strategic plans.
- Design and maintain the IT operating model, including defining ways of working and role structures.
- Oversee the IT business office, including budget development, management, and transparency.
- Lead transformation initiatives to evolve the IT operating model and implement large-scale IT systems.
- Ensure accountability and compliance with all applicable laws, policies, and regulations.
- Champion Sound Transit's core values, including diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Management, Information Systems, Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Ten years of experience in senior level IT positions.
- Eight years of leadership, budgetary, planning, and workforce management experience.
- ITIL V3 certification required.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $165k - $315k, with new hires typically starting between the minimum and midpoint ($240k).
