The Role of Finance Manager / Senior Bookkeeper

We are seeking a Finance Manager / Senior Bookkeeper to take full ownership of our finance function and work closely with leadership to strengthen financial performance, systems, and cashflow. This is a hands-on role with strategic input, ideal for someone who enjoys being embedded in an SME and making a real impact. You will manage end-to-end finance operations while providing meaningful financial insight to support decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-end bookkeeping using Xero
  • Fortnightly payroll processing
  • Monthly financial reporting, including:
    • Profit & Loss statements
    • Balance Sheet reconciliations
    • Cashflow statements & forecasting
  • Budgeting, tracking, and variance analysis
  • Managing Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
  • Bank reconciliations and tax lodgments (in liaison with an external accountant)
  • Cashflow management and improvement initiatives
  • Providing financial analysis and advice to leadership
  • Implementing process improvement across finance systems and reporting
  • Liaising with accountants, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
  • Offering HR & WHS administrative support where needed

Ideal Candidate Profile

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a small business environment and enjoys both doing the work and improving how it’s done. You will likely be someone who:

  • Has 5+ years' experience in finance, accounting, or senior bookkeeping roles
  • Has worked in SMEs and understands the realities of cashflow management
  • Is highly confident in Xero and end-to-end finance processes
  • Can analyze P&Ls, Balance Sheets, and cashflow – not just produce them
  • Is proactive and comfortable taking ownership without constant direction
  • Enjoys improving systems, processes, and financial clarity
  • Communicates clearly with business owners and non-finance staff
