Job Summary

Software AG is seeking a Technical Instructional Designer with strong z/OS expertise to design and deliver modern, high-impact digital learning solutions that support onboarding, skill development, and long-term product knowledge continuity for customers, partners, and internal teams.

This role is central to addressing the generational change and critical skills gap facing Software AG’s customer base. You will transform deep technical expertise into scalable, role-based learning experiences delivered through Software AG | Learn, enabling learners to onboard faster, build confidence, and sustain expertise over time.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on z/OS experience and a passion for knowledge sharing. You will work closely with Engineering, DevOps-aligned, and Agile delivery teams, and help design and support hands-on learner lab environments that reinforce real-world application. Candidates with a strong z/OS background who are transitioning into instructional design, technical training, or enablement roles are strongly encouraged to apply.

In this role, you’ll combine deep z/OS expertise with modern digital learning to help solve the generational skills gap facing long-standing mainframe environments. You will transform expert knowledge into scalable, role-based learning experiences that accelerate onboarding, adoption, and customer success.

You’ll join a collaborative, forward-looking Learner Experience team where learning is treated as a strategic driver of business outcomes. Your work will have global reach, visible impact, and a direct role in shaping the next generation of mainframe professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instructional Design & Content Development
    • Design, develop, and maintain z/OS-focused courses, learning paths, and modular learning assets aligned to Software AG technologies.
    • Apply modern instructional design methodologies (ADDIE, SAM, Agile learning design).
    • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, engaging, learner-centric digital experiences.
    • Create storyboards, scripts, quizzes, hands-on exercises, video based courses and job aids.
  • Learner Lab Design & Management
    • Design, build, and maintain hands-on learner lab environments that reinforce applied learning.
    • Provision, configure, and manage virtual machines (VMs) and z/OS training environments.
    • Document lab setup, access, usage, and troubleshooting to ensure a smooth learner experience.
  • Technical & Agile Collaboration
    • Collaborate with R&D, Product Management, Professional Services, and Pre-Sales Engineering to ensure technical accuracy and relevance.
    • Participate in Agile workflows including sprint planning, reviews, and release alignment.
    • Validate learning content against real-world customer use cases and operational scenarios.
  • Digital Learning & Platform Delivery
    • Develop content using modern authoring tools such as Articulate, Camtasia, Captivate, Gamma and HeyGen.
    • Ensure content meets LMS and standards compliance (SCORM, xAPI).
    • Maintain content and lab versioning aligned with Agile and DevOps release cycles.
  • Learning Programs & Continuous Improvement
    • Contribute to onboarding programs, advanced learning tracks, certifications, and digital badging initiatives.
    • Analyze learner feedback and engagement data to drive continuous improvement.
    • Modernize legacy training materials and lab environments to meet current learning and technology standards.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with z/OS technology.
  • Experience working in Agile and DevOps-aligned environments.
  • Experience contributing to technical training, enablement, or customer-facing knowledge transfer initiatives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex topics clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience as an Instructional Designer, Technical Trainer, or Enablement Specialist.
  • Experience designing or supporting hands-on labs or lab-as-a-service platforms.
  • Exposure to CI/CD concepts, automation workflows, or modern delivery pipelines.
  • Experience supporting digital badging or certification programs.

What’s in it for you?

Compensation

The annual base salary range for this position is $130,000- $145,000.

This position is also eligible for a 10% discretionary annual bonus in accordance with relevant plan documents and award agreements.
