About The Role

SOCAN is seeking a Film & TV Intern who will support the Director by conducting thorough research, preparing high quality background materials for composer meetings, and contributing to competitive and industry analyses that inform program development. They will assist with managing member communications, ensuring timely follow-ups and smooth information flow, particularly during periods of high activity or travel. This role requires strong organization, research, and presentation skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively across teams in a dynamic and evolving environment.

What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities

Research & Meeting Preparation
  • Support the Director by preparing background research ahead of composer meetings, including:
  • Composer profiles (“who you’re meeting and why they matter”)
  • Agent/representation details and revenue trajectory (where available)
  • Research using sources such as IMDb, social media, CoPilot AI and targeted Google searches
  • Verifying accuracy and ensuring information is current and reliable
Competitive & Industry Analysis (Education / Programs)
  • Assist with research related to external education and development initiatives (e.g., incubators, accelerators, awards societies, international counterparts), including:
  • Identifying approaches or parameters SOCAN may want to borrow, adapt, or avoid
  • Light comparative analysis across Canadian and international organizations
  • Outputs would typically be summaries or slide decks for internal discussion.
Member Communications Support
  • Help manage and stay on top of general inboxes and member communications by:
  • Monitoring incoming messages
  • Flagging priorities or themes
  • Supporting timely follow-ups, this is especially important when the Director is travelling.

What You Will Bring / Qualifications & Experience

  • Currently enrolled in post secondary education
  • Available to work 35 hours a week, May through August
  • Strong communication (both written and verbal) skills
  • Experience with the MS suite of tools
  • Strong PowerPoint skills, with an eye for clean, visually engaging decks
  • Introductory knowledge of the Canadian film/TV music space (key composers, major shows, current industry context)
  • Background or interest in music composition, formal music training, or the royalty ecosystem is an asset
  • Strong research, organization, and information-synthesis skills
