About The Analytics Project Manager Intern Role
SOCAN is seeking an Analytics Project Manager Intern to join our growing Data Analytics and Strategic Solutions team. As an Analytics Project Manager Intern, you will support the BI team by optimizing our DevOps environment, coordinating agile rituals, maintaining a healthy and well-defined backlog, and translating team progress into clear business insights. You will streamline workflows, facilitate sprint ceremonies, ensure user stories and acceptance criteria are complete, and build dashboards that track key performance metrics such as lead time, sprint velocity, and burndown trends. Through this work, you will help improve team efficiency, transparency, and overall delivery effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
- DevOps Environment Optimization: Conduct an audit of the current board structure and lead the migration to a standardized workflow. This includes mapping out state transitions (e.g., "In Progress" to "Peer Review"), automating ticket movements, and ensuring the board reflects the actual lifecycle of a BI project.
- Sprint Coordination & Rituals: Act as a "Junior Scrum Master," facilitating daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives. The goal is to keep the team focused on the sprint goal, document blockers, and ensure that action items from retrospectives are implemented in the next cycle.
- Backlog Grooming & Requirement Mapping: Work closely with the team to ensure the backlog is "healthy." This involves chasing down missing details for user stories, ensuring acceptance criteria are clearly defined, and flagging stagnant tickets to keep the pipeline moving.
- Data Analysis & Progress Reporting: Translate technical progress into business insights. Build and maintain dashboards that track key metrics like Lead Time (how long for a feature from idea to production), Sprint Velocity (how much work the team can realistically handle), and Burndown Charts (real-time tracking of work remaining in the sprint).
Qualifications & Experience
- Currently enrolled in post-secondary education.
- Available to work 35 hours a week, May through August.
- Strong communication (both written and verbal) skills.
- Experience with the MS suite of tools (Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint), with a proficiency in Excel.
- Understanding of SQL and analytical database design.
- Understanding of modern business intelligence concepts and tools, such as data warehousing and Power BI.
- Understanding of data analysis tools such as Python or R.
- Knowledge and interest in working in the Music Industry.
