The Opportunity: Product Counsel, Ads

We are seeking a Counsel to join the Product Legal team, specifically focusing on all aspects of advertising and monetization at Snap. This includes our diverse advertising platforms (e.g., sponsored AR lenses, advertiser tools, targeting algorithms), Snapchat+, and other in-app revenue initiatives like ecommerce and creator monetization.

What You'll Do:

  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Product, and Design teams from early development through launch to understand and evaluate new products and technologies.
  • Review engineering and design specifications to ensure adherence to privacy-by-design requirements and legal compliance.
  • Analyze potential legal and safety risks along with regulatory requirements for upcoming products and technologies.
  • Partner with legal and business colleagues to formulate effective regulatory compliance strategies.
  • Contribute to scaling the legal organization by developing innovative processes to support the rapid pace of Engineering, Product, and Design teams.
  • Assist in drafting public-facing descriptions for new products and technologies.
  • Conduct essential legal trainings for engineers and other relevant teams across the company.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated excellent legal and business judgment, coupled with strategic and creative thinking abilities.
  • Strong understanding of and experience across various legal disciplines, including advertising, privacy, consumer protection, marketing, and intellectual property.
  • Detail-oriented, business-friendly, and an exceptional teammate capable of meeting tight deadlines.
  • Possess a strong work ethic and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Capable of communicating effectively complex, multifaceted issues to stakeholders company-wide.
  • Proven experience working directly with engineers and product managers.
  • Subject matter expert in all aspects of ad tech.
  • Comfortable with quickly mastering new areas of law and technology.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from a nationally recognized law school.
  • Active membership in at least one state bar.
  • 6+ years of experience practicing law.

Preferred Qualifications:

(A combination of the below items is strongly preferred)

  • Experience advising clients on domestic and global privacy issues, including GDPR, DSA, OSA, and U.S. consumer protection and privacy laws.
  • Experience counseling clients on ad tech and targeted advertising legal issues, including compliance with industry guidelines such as Apple’s App Store rules (e.g., ATT privacy controls).
  • Experience advising on legal issues related to ecommerce and online payments processing.
  • Experience directly advising and collaborating with product teams and engineers to achieve outcomes that effectively balance risk mitigation and business objectives.
