The Legal Team at Snap
The Legal Team serves as Snap’s in-house law firm, policy consultant, lobbyist, and strategic advisor. We ensure Snap operates ethically, makes informed decisions, manages risks effectively, and creatively navigates challenges. We collaborate across various domains, including privacy, product, IP, commercial transactions, corporate governance, employment, acquisitions, litigation, and policy. The Opportunity: Product Counsel, Ads
We are seeking a Product Counsel to join our dynamic Product Legal team. This team is central to all advertising and monetization initiatives at Snap, encompassing diverse advertising platforms (like sponsored AR lenses, front-end advertiser tools, and back-end targeting algorithms), Snapchat+, and other in-app revenue streams such as e-commerce and creator monetization.
What You’ll Do:
- Work closely with Engineering, Product, and Design teams to understand and assess new products and technologies from early development through launch.
- Review engineering and design specifications to ensure privacy-by-design requirements and legal compliance.
- Analyze potential legal and safety risks, as well as regulatory requirements, for new products and technologies.
- Collaborate with legal and business colleagues to develop robust regulatory compliance strategies.
- Contribute to scaling the legal organization by developing innovative processes that support fast-moving Engineering, Product, and Design teams.
- Assist in drafting public-facing descriptions for new products and technologies.
- Conduct legal trainings for engineers and other relevant teams across the company.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Demonstrated excellent legal and business judgment, coupled with the ability to think strategically and creatively.
- Strong understanding of and experience across a range of legal disciplines, including advertising, privacy, consumer protection, marketing, and intellectual property.
- Detail-oriented, business-friendly, and an exceptional teammate, capable of meeting tight deadlines.
- Strong work ethic and the ability to operate both independently and collaboratively.
- Proficient in communicating complex, multifaceted legal issues effectively to various stakeholders across the company.
- Proven experience working directly with engineers and product managers.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on all aspects of ad tech.
- Comfortable with mastering new areas of law and technology rapidly.
Minimum Qualifications:
- J.D. from a nationally recognized law school.
- Active membership in at least one state bar.
- 6+ years of experience practicing law.
Preferred Qualifications:
(A combination of the below items is strongly preferred)
- Experience advising clients on domestic and global privacy issues, including GDPR, DSA, OSA, and U.S. consumer protection and privacy laws.
- Experience counseling clients on ad tech and targeted advertising legal issues, including compliance with industry guidelines such as Apple’s app store rules (e.g., ATT privacy controls).
- Experience advising on legal issues related to e-commerce and online payment processing.
- Experience directly advising and collaborating with product teams and engineers to achieve outcomes that effectively balance risk mitigation with business objectives.
