The Spectacles Team
The Spectacles team is home to our cutting-edge hardware products, featuring a world-class research, development, and design group. We are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of camera technology, specifically by integrating computing into the real world. Spectacles are standalone AR glasses that bring augmented reality to life, powered by our proprietary Snap OS.
This highly collaborative team, comprising designers, prototypers, user researchers, and product managers, builds innovative products and experiences that connect our community in novel ways.
The Opportunity: Design Engineer
We are seeking a talented Design Engineer to join our Spectacles team!
What You'll Do
- Push the limits of augmented reality on wearable devices and craft innovative user experiences.
- Collaborate closely with product design teams to create and iterate on new prototypes.
- Work hand-in-hand with engineering teams to build sophisticated prototypes.
- Engage with user researchers to test new ideas and refine based on feedback.
- Present your work directly to the CEO and company leadership.
- Build fun, innovative products that significantly influence the company's direction.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Solid understanding of real-time AR development tools and 3D engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal, Lens Studio).
- Familiarity with creating experiences for VR/AR.
- Familiarity with 3D math, linear algebra, 3D geometry, graphics, and rendering.
- Strong computer science fundamentals.
- Expertise with Javascript and C#/C++.
- Understanding of software engineering principles, coupled with the ability to pragmatically deviate for rapid proof-of-concept development.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, essential for clearly conveying design decisions to leadership, team members, and engineers.
- Ability to think strategically about product strategy at a high level.
- Capable of assuming Product Manager responsibilities when necessary.
- Self-motivated with the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous work environment.
- A creative problem solver with a wealth of ideas, adept at finding solutions where others might see obstacles.
Minimum Qualifications
- BS/BA degree or equivalent years of experience.
- 2+ years of experience in designing, prototyping, and programming with real-time 3D engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal, Lens Studio).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with various spatial design, prototyping, and development software (e.g., Lens Studio, Figma, Blender, C4D, Unity).
- Experience utilizing LLMs and other generative models for application development.
- Ability to bring a new perspective, unique understanding of a field, or expertise in areas like AI, CV, ML, 3D graphics, HCI.

At Snap Inc., we foster culture and collaboration through in-person interaction. We operate on a "default together" approach, expecting team members to work from an office 4+ days per week.
Compensation
Salary is determined by work location pay zones, reflecting job-related skills, experience, qualifications, and market conditions. This position is eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
- Zone A (CA, WA, NYC): The base salary range is $157,000-$235,000 annually.
- Zone B: The base salary range is $149,000-$223,000 annually.
- Zone C: The base salary range is $133,000-$200,000 annually.
