The Pittsburgh or Chicago office of SmithGroup is looking for an Architectural Intern to join our dynamic team.

Working with us, you will:

  • Work on integrated design teams alongside professionals in planning, engineering, and interior design.
  • Actively participate in design meetings, contributing your ideas and insights.
  • Utilize the latest 2D and 3D software to develop conceptual models and high-quality renderings.
  • Accurately document changes to architectural drawings, following specific instructions.
  • Carefully read and review project drawings and plans, as well as relevant building codes and local zoning regulations.
  • Receive valuable mentorship from experienced design professionals, guiding your growth.
  • Visit various construction site(s) and/or completed project sites to gain practical experience.

An ideal candidate has:

  • Completed at least their sophomore year or holds graduate standing in an accredited architecture program at the time of the internship.
  • Some practical experience with industry-standard software such as Revit, Sketchup, Rhino, V-Ray, Lumion, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, and the Microsoft Office Suite.

Compensation and Work Arrangement:

SmithGroup promotes a healthy work/life balance for our staff, offering hybrid work options that provide interns with the flexibility to engage within our vibrant office culture or work remotely, as needed. The anticipated hourly rate for this position is $21.00 to $24.00 per hour, at the time of posting. You are eligible to receive overtime pay for hours worked beyond 40 in a work week. Our 12-week summer internships are typically held between May and August. We encourage you to apply early, as the position may be filled on a rolling basis.
