About the Role: English Language Expert at SME Careers
In this hourly, remote contractor role, you will play a crucial part in refining AI-generated English-language responses. Your expertise will be leveraged to review and/or generate high-quality language content, meticulously evaluating reasoning, providing step-by-step edits, and delivering precise, actionable feedback. You will be responsible for assessing AI solutions for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to specific prompts, identifying errors in logic, meaning, methodology, or conceptual understanding. Fact-checking information will be essential. Ultimately, you will write high-quality explanations and model revisions that demonstrate correct methods, and critically rate and compare multiple AI responses based on their correctness and reasoning quality.

SME Careers specializes in providing AI training data for many of the world’s largest AI companies and foundation-model labs. Your language expertise directly contributes to improving premier AI models globally, making their outputs more accurate, natural, and clearly explained.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop AI Training Content: Create detailed prompts across various topics and formulate responses to guide AI learning, ensuring models comprehensively understand diverse subjects.
- Optimize AI Performance: Evaluate and rank AI responses to significantly enhance the model's accuracy, fluency, and contextual relevance.
- Ensure Model Integrity: Rigorously test AI models for potential inaccuracies or biases, thereby validating their reliability across a wide range of use cases.
Your Profile
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Linguistics, English, Translation/Localization, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
- Expert command of English (C2/Native-level preferred) with a minimum C1 English proficiency required. Multilingual ability (professional proficiency in at least one additional language) is strongly preferred.
- Strong skills in grammar, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, discourse structure, and stylistic editing across various registers.
- Exceptional attention to detail in identifying meaning drift, ambiguity, inconsistencies, and subtle errors; proven ability to clearly explain corrections in writing.
- Comfortable applying style guides and enforcing consistency (tone, terminology, punctuation, capitalization) across varied content types.
- Reliable, self-directed, and capable of delivering consistent quality in an hourly, remote contractor workflow across different time zones.
- Previous experience with AI data training/annotation, editorial QA, localization QA, or professional copyediting is strongly preferred.
- Strong hands-on experience using generative AI tools like Perplexity, Gemini, ChatGPT, and others.
