Assistant Food Service Director

The Assistant Food Service Director (AFSD) is responsible for the efficient operation of meal preparation for residents at a designated Detention Facility. This role focuses on ensuring food safety in kitchen operations while supervising resident workers and maintaining equipment and work areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee meal preparation and cooking processes
  • Ensure food safety, sanitation, and equipment maintenance
  • Supervise resident workers and liaise with facility staff
  • Manage food shortages, order damages and adhere to policies
  • Assist in menu planning with the operations manager

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • At least one year experience in a food service setting
  • Knowledge of food preparation methods and safety regulations
  • Ability to work independently in a secure corrections environment
  • Flexibility for varied shifts, weekends, and holidays

Physical and Other Abilities

  • Ability to stand, walk, lift (up to 40-50 pounds), and perform physical tasks
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to pass background checks
