The Opportunity

Our Toronto studio is seeking a highly motivated Junior Interior Designer to join our Interiors Practice, with a focus on corporate workspace design. We are looking for a creative, success-driven individual who thrives in a high-performance, collaborative team environment. The ideal candidate will be a strong team player, eager to contribute to a diverse, multi-disciplinary, and globally-reaching firm. This role involves effective interaction and collaboration with a wide range of service providers, including architects, engineers, contractors, suppliers, and regulators.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the team to create compelling proposals and presentations.
  • Attend client meetings with senior colleagues, acting as an effective presenter and representative.
  • Provide space planning that aligns with program requirements, functional needs, and design considerations, ensuring compliance with building codes.
  • Contribute to the development of 2D and 3D design concepts, with a focus on high-quality renderings.
  • Research, recommend, and present appropriate finishes and furnishings that meet functional, aesthetic, environmental, and budgetary project requirements, considering the interplay of texture, light, and color.
  • Assist in preparing documentation for the selection, specification, procurement, and installation of furnishings and equipment, including detailed layout drawings and schedules.
  • Aid in producing DD & Contract Documents (plans, elevations, sections, and schedules) using REVIT and AutoCAD.
  • Understand project plans, life safety issues, building codes, and other technical aspects; possess knowledge in design, drawing details, finishes, building materials, specifications, codes, technical drawing, contract administration, and business practices.
  • Assist with permit tender applications as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Education & Experience

  • Degree or diploma from a CIDA-accredited Interior Design program.
  • Up to 3 years of experience in a recognized Interior Design or Architectural firm.
  • Membership with ARIDO (or other relevant regulatory body).
  • NCIDQ certification (attained or in progress).
  • LEED Green Associate certification (attained or in progress).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, REVIT, Windows (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint), and 3D graphic programs such as Enscape, Sketch-up, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing diverse creative projects, particularly in Workplace design; Hospitality and/or Healthcare design experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated involvement in the Interior Design industry through volunteer work or participation in ARIDO or IDC events/committees.
  • Technically adept, with the ability to learn and master new software and applications.
  • Highly proficient with REVIT for both planning and 3D modeling.
  • Self-directed, capable of working independently while knowing when to seek guidance.
  • Open to receiving coaching, assimilating feedback, and learning quickly.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Positive attitude, passion, and patience.
