Job Summary
Defines and documents system architectures that are modular, maintainable, and extendible. Supports project teams in realizing designs and ensures alignment with stakeholder requirements.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- System Development: Responsible for defining the system architecture within scope to a level that enables effective realization by project teams. Develops and documents architectures that decompose systems into modular, maintainable, and extendable subsystems and behaviors. Accountable for the technical integrity of all discipline designs within scope, including the detailed design work in related (sub)projects. Ensures that performance, scalability, and security requirements are appropriately addressed in the system design. Maintains consistency across system components and oversees their integration, including architectural aspects of verification and validation. Demonstrates deep understanding of system architecture, product development processes, and design methodologies such as modelling.
- Interfacing with Marketing/ stakeholders: Defines system architectures that meet stakeholder requirements across functions. Elicits system requirements within scope from all relevant stakeholders, including marketing. Supports marketing in customer interactions and go-to-market preparations.
- Supporting Project and program management: Collaborates with project and program management to define project scope, establish work breakdown structures, and support planning activities. Leads multidisciplinary design teams—including architects, designers, and specialists—within scope, serving as a source of expertise and fostering collaboration. Acts as a regular point of contact for project stakeholders on architectural matters. Advises project management on make-or-buy decisions for system components. Demonstrates a clear understanding of project management processes and key milestones. Supports project management in identifying and managing technical risks, for example by initiating tests and prototypes. Ensures architectures developed in research are transferable and have a defined landing spot in development.
- Strategic responsibilities: Contributes to technology and innovation roadmaps by identifying future directions and opportunities. Supports the development and execution of research and development strategies. Defines and monitors research and advanced development activities to ensure alignment with strategic goals. Actively maintains external relationships with R&D institutes, universities, industry partnerships, and standardization bodies to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange.
- Personal skills and organizational responsibilities: Continuously develops and maintains relevant technical and professional knowledge to stay current and contribute effectively. Provides coaching and mentoring within the team to support effective use of available knowledge and skills, both internally and externally.
