We are actively seeking a skilled Substation Automation Design Engineer with robust expertise in the testing and commissioning of automation systems for electrical substations. This role involves the configuration, testing, and integration of advanced technologies to enhance the monitoring, control, and protection of substation equipment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of substation automation software systems, as well as the implementation and maintenance of advanced automation systems. You will be responsible for leveraging your knowledge and experience in substation automation for the configuration, testing, and commissioning of transmission substation automation systems. This position requires a strong understanding of various technologies and software systems, alongside the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Your new role – challenging and future-oriented:
- Lead the design, engineering, and implementation of substation automation systems to optimize monitoring, control, and protection functions within electrical substations.
- Prepare and secure approval for engineering documents including FDS, System Architecture, Signal List, Bill of Materials, General Arrangements (internal & external), Panel heat load calculation, IP List, and communication cable list.
- Develop Testing & Commissioning documents such as FAT, SAT, Test Reports, and Schedule Plans.
- Integrate intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), Remote Terminal Units (RTUs), and human-machine interface (HMI) systems to enable remote monitoring and control capabilities.
- Collaborate closely with Protection Engineers and T&C teams to ensure accurate and efficient parameterization of substation automation systems.
- Stay abreast of industry standards and technological advancements in substation automation design and implementation.
- Coordinate with customers for timely engineering document approval.
- Provide manufacturing input to the factory.
- Coordinate with suppliers for material selection.
- Liaise with project management, supply chain management, vendors, and factory teams.
- Prepare 'As manufacturing' and 'As-built' documentation.
- Offer remote support to site T&C teams for successful commissioning of substation automation systems.
We don’t need superheroes, just super minds:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in substation automation design, engineering, and configuration.
- Proficiency in software systems such as Substation Automation System, HMI development, and networking protocols.
- Technical knowledge of substation automation principles and communication protocols (e.g., IEC 61850, Modbus, Time Synch).
- Familiarity with OS and Tools: Windows, PC Applications, PC communication, serial/IP networking.
- Knowledge of PC Networking, switch, router, GPS, Firewall, and Cyber Security.
- Understanding of Process Bus Technology.
- Experience in IO Mapping with respect to scheme drawings and troubleshooting of database issues in SAS system/RTU based system.
- Ability to develop and maintain standardized parameterization procedures for substation automation equipment to optimize performance and interoperability.
- Experience working on Hitachi substation automation system, including creation of MicroSCADA SYS600 database and gateway configuration, Integrated Engineering Tool – IET600, Integrated Testing Tool - ITT600, and PCM600 is essential. OR
- Work experience on GE make substation automation tools like DS Agile, DS Agile Substation Gateway, EnerVista (launchpad & viewpoint monitoring) is essential.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing standardized parameterization procedures for substation automation equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Willingness to travel a minimum of 40-50% overseas and within India.
Candidates with additional experience in debugging tools like Mods can, IEC Tester, IED Scout, and Wireshark will receive higher consideration. You will also be integrating intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), RTUs (Remote Terminal Units), Gateways, and HMI systems, and developing/configuring communication networks and protocols such as IEC 61850, IEC60870-5-101/103/104, DNP3, OPC, and Modbus TCI/IP.
