This role supports the regional outside sales efforts in the construction market, focusing on key contractor accounts. Responsibilities include handling quotations, preparing proposals, ensuring clean order hand-offs, and proactively managing pre- and post-order tasks. The Sales Support Engineer will also assist with customer development and qualifying new opportunities. This position reports to the Area Sales Manager, with a dotted line to the Sales Support Manager for overall direction, process streamlining, training, and resource development.
Key Responsibilities
- Support sales on Tier 1 and Tier 2 target contractors.
- Prospect, develop, and expand new business opportunities.
- Manage, develop, and expand customer relationships by responding to inquiries, escalating urgent matters, and providing proactive project updates.
- Assist Sales Engineers with strategic large project proposal preparation.
- Prepare and generate product documentation.
- Support Order Entry and Handover process responsibilities.
- Develop internal process improvements within the sales cycle.
- Manage post-sale orders and change orders.
- Act as a technical liaison between customers and the business unit.
- Provide primary point of contact or coverage for Sales Engineers who are out of office.
- Handle miscellaneous requests such as replacement parts for disconnect switches, panelboards, and add-on breakers.
- Serve as a Customer Support Ambassador, identifying the right internal contacts and understanding escalation paths.
- Build strong connections with key stakeholders within SI Business Units, SI US S&OP, and SI US EP/EA.
- This position offers potential development into a sales role for those interested.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering is desired, though candidates with varying degrees and directly related work experience will be considered.
- 3+ years of experience in managing, developing, and expanding customer relationships.
- Must reside and work within an assigned territory, with willingness to travel for training, business unit meetings, and territory support.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and willing to work with proprietary web-based enterprise systems.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
- 1 to 3+ years of Electrical Industry sales experience (Preferred).
- 1 to 3+ years of Contractor/Manufacturer/Distributor work experience (Preferred).
- 1 to 3+ years of previous sales or similar professional experience (Preferred).
