About the role
Commissioning Engineer - WHRS Power Manager
Siemens Energy is seeking a dedicated Commissioning Engineer to join our team and help customers navigate the world’s most pressing energy problems. As a world leader in advanced engineering technologies, we improve lives and further human achievements while protecting the climate. Join us to do something significant that benefits society and human progress.
Your New Role – Challenging and Future-Oriented
As a WHRS Power Manager, you will be responsible for the engineering coordination, project execution, commissioning, operation, and performance optimization of Waste Heat Recovery System (WHRS) based power plants. Your role will ensure the seamless integration of WHRS with the host industrial process, maximizing power generation from waste heat, improving energy efficiency, and supporting sustainability targets.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Design
- Evaluate process flow diagrams, waste heat sources, and WHRS integration feasibility for new or existing plants.
- Analyze heat balance and determine usable waste heat potential, especially from preheater & cooler gases in cement plants.
- Review WHRS layout, including boilers, HRSGs, ducts, turbines, auxiliaries, and equipment specifications.
- Ensure equipment selection supports variations in gas temperature, moisture, and flow.
Commissioning & Start-up
- Lead pre-commissioning, commissioning, testing, synchronization, and reliability runs of WHRS boilers, turbines, and auxiliaries.
- Ensure safe execution of steam blowing, turbine roll-up, logic checks, interlocks, and grid integration.
Operations & Performance Monitoring
- Monitor WHRS operation using SCADA/DCS, ensuring real-time optimization and predictive maintenance.
- Analyze process fluctuations (e.g., waste gas temperature, kiln load variations) to maintain stable power generation.
- Drive improvements to maximize heat recovery efficiency and minimize auxiliary consumption.
Compliance & Sustainability
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and emissions standards.
- Prepare regulatory documents, including safety protocols, audit reports, and statutory submissions.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Power Engineering or related discipline.
- 15-20 Years of experience in WHRS, power plant systems, cement/steel industry utilities, or steam-cycle engineering.
- Hands-on experience in commissioning or operating WHRS, biomass boilers, or turbines is preferred.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, steam systems, and WHRS/boiler design.
- Knowledge of WHRS types such as AQC & PH Boilers in cement plants.
- Familiarity with EPC/EPCM project frameworks, safety standards, and energy audit processes.
- Strong leadership across cross-functional teams.
- Analytical decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
