Role Description
The Solutions Engineer II (B2B) will play a critical role supporting B2B/Dropshipping expansion opportunities for existing merchants. Acting as a trusted advisor, you’ll bridge gaps between merchants’ needs, retailers’ requirements, technical setups, and operational feasibility. You will partner with Success, Implementation, Operations, Product, and other teams to ensure opportunities are properly vetted, scoped, clearly & accurately documented, and prepared for successful implementation. This role reports to the Implementation Team Lead or another aligned functional leader, depending on organizational placement.
What You’ll Do
- Architect B2B Merchant Success: Engage directly with merchants to understand requirements for their B2B/Dropshipping expansion opportunities: retailers’ expectations, timelines, volumes, technical needs, etc. Translate all of the above—in combination with merchants’ overall goals—into clear, actionable solutions/approaches that balance feasibility, complexity, and value.
- Own Technical & Operational Discovery: Evaluate retailer-specific technical & operational requirements (EDI-related, routing, labeling, etc.) to confirm what can be supported. Conduct feasibility checks across tech-stacks and operational workflows/capabilities to confirm the extent to which ShipBob can support. Identify risks, gaps, and mission-critical changes early in the opportunity lifecycle.
- Deliver Expansion Excellence: Scope and document opportunities (via use of Retail Summaries, Merchant Success Plans, and internal briefs) to ensure alignment on responsibilities and expectations. Support internal approvals, opportunity creation, and Prepaid billing recommendations. Provide sales-adjacent support where needed, ensuring clarity amongst all internal & external stakeholders.
- Drive Strategic Rollouts: Prepare opportunities for handoff by producing clear documentation and ensuring all mission-critical steps are complete for Implementation readiness. Partner closely with Implementation teams to maintain continuity through go-lives and ensure solutions land as designed.
- Lead Cross-Functional Solutioning: Collaborate with Success, Implementation, Operations, Product, and other teams to develop practical, achievable solutions and ensure cross-functional alignment. Serve as the centralized point of contact for B2B- or Dropshipping-focused scoping/solutioning.
- Champion Process & Product Evolution: Recommend improvements to B2B-centric processes, playbooks, etc. so as to optimize merchants’ experiences. Help strengthen standardization across B2B/Dropshipping offerings by sharing insights across teams.
Additional Duties And Responsibilities, As Necessary.
What you’ll bring to the table:
- Merchant Facing Technical Expertise: 5-7 years of experience in solutioning-forward roles, such as Solutions Engineering, Solutions Architecture, or similar customer-facing technical roles.
- Specialized B2B/Dropshipping Knowledge: Familiarity with compliance-centric Retail requirements (routing, labeling, SLAs) and EDI/API integrations that facilitate compliant fulfillment. Ability to assess and articulate technical & operational feasibility and/or constraints.
- Technical Fluency with Business Impact: Comfort working with EDI standards, APIs, data-mapping, and general concepts of integrated systems. Ability to tie technical & operational decisions to business outcomes for merchants.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Demonstrated ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders and push progress across complex projects without direct authority.
- Communication & Documentation Mastery: Effectively simplifying complex requirements and writing clear Merchant Success Plans.
- Process Optimization Mindset: Experience developing effective, repeatable frameworks that result in both efficiency and quality.
