Job Summary
Seven Seas Water Group (SSWG) is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead all engineering aspects for the delivery of water treatment systems, with a primary focus on Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems for seawater and brackish water. This role is critical for ensuring the successful, long-term operation of these systems for municipal and industrial customers. The Senior Project Engineer will own the engineering activities for turn-key solutions on both greenfield and brownfield sites, encompassing in-house engineering, 3D design, instrumentation & control (I&C) engineering, SCADA development, and managing third-party engineering subcontracts for civil, structural, building, and permitting requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Act as the lead engineer for assigned projects, supporting the Project Manager in the execution of engineering deliverables and liaising with the project team and customers.
- Take ownership of P&IDs and ensure the seamless integration of the project across all disciplines for a consistent design and documentation.
- Prepare key engineering documents, including P&IDs, foundation loading charts, valve lists, equipment data sheets (rotating and static), heat exchanger data sheets, and paint/lining specifications within specified timelines.
- Develop Material Purchase Specifications (MPS) for equipment, valves, instruments, vessels, piping, paint, and lining, and review/release Technical Bid Evaluations (TBEs). Post-PO, review and approve supplier submittals to ensure project compliance and schedule adherence.
- Coordinate closely with the 3D Plant Design Team to finalize 3D plant designs for new water treatment facilities. While not performing CADD work, the role is responsible for delivering high-quality, annotated construction drawings that ensure a safe, operable, and efficient plant design.
- Facilitate HAZOP and Plant Design Reviews for new plants constructed by the company.
- Maintain detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) in the company's ERP system (IFS) and issue purchase requisitions.
- Direct and approve the work of mechanical AutoCAD designers responsible for mechanical and process drawings.
- Assist Business Development with cost estimations for new plant proposals as needed.
- Support the completion of operational procedures for newly constructed plants.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Strong technical knowledge of seawater and brackish water reverse osmosis technology and applications.
- Expertise in domestic and industrial wastewater treatment technologies, and related water industry trends and standards.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, including P&IDs, PFDs, and General Arrangement (GA) drawings.
- Proficiency with standard business software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Proficiency in MS Visio and/or AutoCAD design software is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to direct design personnel.
- Solid mechanical engineering skills are essential.
- Process design skills are considered a plus.
- English fluency is required; Spanish speaking ability or other multi-lingual skills are highly desired.
- Ability to work a hybrid schedule (multiple days per week in the Tampa office) is required.
- Willingness to travel 10-20% internationally and domestically within the U.S.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License is highly desired.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline is required; Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degrees are preferred.
- 5-10 years of minimum professional work experience is highly preferred.
- Relevant experience in the water treatment industry, including experience with reverse-osmosis system design; experience with Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) is highly preferred.
- Experience with mechanical design of various piping materials (PVC, stainless steel, FRP) and mechanical support systems for piping, valves, pumps, and instrumentation.
- Experience with all facets of project execution, with a primary focus on detailed engineering of reverse osmosis and related process equipment design.
