About the Role
As a Sensor Operator, you will be instrumental in operating and maintaining three one-meter telescopes equipped with sensitive digital cameras. You will perform sensor operations, area searches, and respond to government taskings for metric observations. Your responsibilities will include maintaining sensors, support equipment, and the facility at Detachment 2, Naval Support Facility in Diego Garcia. This mission is crucial for protecting existing satellites and providing information for future satellite launches.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete and maintain certifications through company-provided Optical Sensor operator training.
- Perform sensor operations, area searches, and other sensor support tasks.
- Accomplish Higher Headquarters taskings and reporting requirements issued by JSpOC.
- Schedule mission tasks, including routine and special metric taskings, SOI signature gathering, and raw video collection.
- Schedule observation attempts considering weather, equipment, and tasking constraints.
- Perform manual scheduling, special sensor settings, and other advanced techniques.
- Complete 100% of SOI-tasked objects monthly and maintain workload data.
- Accomplish CalSat tracking as directed by JSpOC.
- Perform post-mission activities, including maintaining operations logs, recorded data, and workload data.
- Document operations, security events, equipment status, and other significant events.
- Complete sensor and mount calibrations in accordance with GEODSS Technical Orders.
- Operate and maintain communications equipment, sensors, consoles, computers, and other GEODSS system equipment.
- Complete initial and recurring training, maintaining operational certifications.
- Perform operational checkouts and pre-mission preparations.
- Comply with all Operations Security (OPSEC) and Communications Security (COMSEC) procedures.
- Assist electronic technicians with equipment and systems performance checkouts.
- Provide coordination and controls for recording media, safety, and security.
- Support other services in times of crisis to enhance site security and well-being.
- Assist in maintaining site operations procedures and support other Space Sensor Program sites as needed.
