Overview
Sentara RMH Medical Center is hiring a Clinical Pharmacist for our Inpatient Pharmacy team in Harrisonburg, VA. This full-time position (36 hrs/wk) offers a $15,000 sign-on bonus for qualified candidates. The role involves rotating shifts, primarily days, but requires evening, overnight, and every 4th weekend coverage, including holidays. Hours may vary to meet pharmacy needs, generally between 6 am and 11 pm with occasional overnight coverage.
The Clinical Pharmacist is responsible and accountable for providing safe, effective, and prompt pharmacy services. This role involves participating in all necessary aspects of the medication-use system while delivering comprehensive and individualized pharmaceutical care to patients in assigned areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate the ability to work competently and independently in various areas of pharmacy practice.
- Manage patient drug therapy in accordance with applicable clinical practice standards.
- Assure the appropriateness of all provider medication orders to maintain a high level of patient care and safety.
- Maintain current knowledge of medication use and disease states relevant to their area of practice.
- Serve as the primary resource for drug information and education.
- Provide in-depth patient counseling when required.
- Participate in the training of new employees as assigned.
- Assume local responsibility and ownership for assigned tasks, consistently following policies and procedures.
- Continually seek additional training opportunities and stay abreast of new information for assigned areas.
- Demonstrate superior customer service, effective communication, decision-making, and organization.
- Serve as a role model in professionalism, collaboration, and teamwork.
- Ensure adequate supplies are available for continuous patient care.
- Triage and escalate questions or issues outside the scope of practice as needed.
- Use appropriate systems for processing patient information.
- Ensure quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements.
- Operate pharmacy equipment appropriately.
- Precept pharmacy students as assigned.
Education & Experience
Education
- Bachelors Level Degree in Pharmacy (Required)
- Doctorate Level Degree in Pharmacy (Preferred)
Certification/Licensure
- Virginia Pharmacist License (Required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (Preferred)
Experience
- 2 years of Hospital Pharmacy Experience (Preferred)
- Oncology Experience (Preferred)
- Residency Trained (Preferred)
