Job Description
Archaeologist
Sedona Technologies Government Services is seeking an Archaeologist to provide expertise in cultural resource protection and compliance with laws and regulations such as Section 106 of the NHPA. This role involves a variety of tasks related to archaeological resources, historic preservation, and paleontology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviewing applications for non-collection survey authorizations.
- Conducting cultural resources surveys, monitoring, and report preparation.
- Performing literature reviews, archival searches, and field inventories.
- Identifying and recording archaeological sites.
- Developing research designs and preparing cultural resources overviews.
- Conducting oral history interviews and site monitoring.
- Assessing site conditions and developing mitigation and treatment plans.
- Preparing draft and final reports summarizing findings and recommendations.
- Completing inventories and cataloging of archaeological collections (AK specific).
- Conducting Historic and Cultural Landscape Analyses, identifying landscape characteristics and their relation to historic contexts.
- Serving as an expert staff authority on cultural resources matters, archaeological resources, historic preservation, and paleontology.
- Making professional recommendations for non-collection survey authorizations, Archaeological Resources Protection Act Permits, and Antiquities Act Permits.
- Providing written responses to applicants post-Federal permit approval.
- Coordinating with applicants throughout the review process.
- Evaluating applicant qualifications and proposed research for authorizations and permits.
- Providing national coordination for BIA cultural resources program staff and compiling data for reporting.
- Supporting Federal cultural resources officials with written responses to applicants.
- Evaluating qualifications and proposed research for Archaeological Resources Protection Act Permits and Antiquities Act Permits.
- Ensuring compliance with Section 106 of the NHPA and the Secretary of the Interior Standards under 36 CFR 800.2 (a)(1).
