About the Role
Responsible for all aspects of the human resources function, including strategic planning, labour relations, union negotiations, administering contracts, employment and legislative matters, organizational development, change management, leadership development, training, compensation and benefits, recruiting, performance management, compliance, workplace health and safety, and workforce realignment. This role collaborates with North American Division and Group.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute an integrated people and experience strategy aligned with organizational priorities to enhance company performance.
- Lead the development of HR initiatives supporting strategic decisions and align US Division and Group HR strategies within the Canadian Region.
- Promote a favorable company reputation while maintaining professional working relationships and contributing to the productivity and effectiveness of all personnel.
- Drive strategic workforce and resource planning to meet current and emerging service needs.
- Oversee all HR functions, including labour relations, talent management, compensation, benefits, performance management, health and safety, and recruitment.
- Lead labour relations strategy, stabilize labour environments, build constructive union relationships, and manage collective bargaining.
- Develop a Canadian total compensation package strategy and policy consistent with organizational goals, within the national legal, regulatory, and taxation framework.
- Assist and coach executives and management to help employees achieve required performance levels through performance management programs and feedback.
- Implement and evaluate practices in health, safety, wellness, security, and Workers’ Compensation, and drive initiatives from the Employee Survey to improve engagement and culture.
- Modernize HR programs, policies, processes, and systems, including HRIS optimization and data-driven workforce analytics.
- Strengthen internal communications of HR initiatives and organizational priorities to support transparency and alignment.
- Build a contemporary HR policy framework and develop programs for talent development, leadership growth, and succession planning.
- Establish KPIs reporting frameworks and analytics to measure program effectiveness and inform decision-making.
- Support the Country President and Senior leadership team with expert advice on people and experience matters.
Competencies
Must possess sound business judgment, acumen, dispute resolution, and negotiation skills. Strong analytical, problem-solving, project management, and organizational abilities are required. Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and written communication skills. Must be able to work independently and as part of a management team at the executive level. Demonstrated leadership qualities and formal/working knowledge of other business functions are necessary.
Skills And Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, organizational development, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered.
- A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive HR Leadership, ideally within a unionized environment.
- Senior HR Professional certification (CHRL or CHRE) is an asset.
- National level progressive HR experience is desirable.
- Experience in the Security and/or related industry is an asset.
- Strategic, forward-thinking leader able to translate organizational priorities into effective People and Experience Strategies.
- Deep knowledge of HR best practices, organizational development, and relevant legislation (OHSA, Human Rights Code, WCB, ESA).
- Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change, strengthen culture, and build alignment across diverse teams and functions.
- Skilled at leading through influence, building trust, and navigating complex organizational dynamics with clarity and compassion.
- Strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, with a demonstrated record of advancing equitable and inclusive practices.
- Exceptional relationship-building, collaboration, and partnership skills with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Highly effective facilitator, negotiator, and conflict resolver, able to build consensus around challenging issues.
- Strong people leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, and supporting staff in a high-performance, equitable, and inclusive culture.
- Solid fiscal management experience, including overseeing departmental budgets and stewarding resources responsibly.
Compensation And Benefits
- Competitive salary range between $180,000 to $220,000 annually, based on experience.
- Comprehensive benefits package.
- 4 weeks’ vacation.
Location and Travel
- Position based at the Corporate head office, North York (Toronto) Ontario (235 Yorkland Blvd).
- Must be able to travel as required, mostly within the Region or occasionally in North America.
